Detection Methods

PROTECT MORE WITH LESS

OPTI-GUARD™ handles both inside and outside plant applications so you can mix and match detection methods unique to your environment. By eliminating the need for multiple devices, your IT footprint is reduced, saving power, space and cooling costs while lowering operations and maintenance (O&M) costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between zone-based, location-based, and access-point detection?

Zone based detection is primarily used for Alarmed Carrier PDS applications where specific fiber cabling needs to be monitored as it leaves a secure area. In this solution, the entire fiber is alarmed with a RAMP Sensor™ to terminate the zone to be monitored.

Location based detection uses a Cyber Sensing Array™ with embedded sensor technology to pinpoint potential disturbances. This offers greater visibility and location specific detection.

Access point detection uses hardware sensors to detect open/close conditions on a number of different enclosures, whether inside or outside and provides visibility into some of the most vulnerable parts of your infrastructure.

Which detection method is best for my application?

Each method serves different security and operational goals. Zone-based detection is ideal for high-level monitoring of large areas, location-based detection is best for precise threat identification and maintenance efficiency, and access-point detection is perfect for monitoring critical entry points such as cabinets, maintenance holes, or junction boxes. Our team can design a solution that fits your needs once we have a discovery call and learn more about your unique environment.

How does environmental noise affect detection accuracy?

The Infrastructure Monitoring System™ (IMS) software that manages OPTI-GUARD™ is designed to mitigate background noise by establishing custom thresholds. This criteria is unique to your specific environment and will filter out routine occurrences from legitimate intrusion or tampering events. Proper calibration and thresholds defined by the customer ensure reliable performance even in active environments.
